Mr. George Abounader

GEORGE ABOUNADER moved from New York to Naples in 1983 and holds a B.A. from Syracuse University and a M.Ed. from Boston College.  Mr. Abounader has been a professional educator for the past thirty-five years and has taught both at the high school and college level.  During the past twenty-three years, Mr. Abounader has been a school administrator, serving as the Principal/CEO of the Marco Island Charter Middle School, a public middle school, for all but one of the school’s twelve-year existence.  During those years, he has led the school to be ranked among the top 3.6% of all public middle schools in the State, receiving the highest score in 55 of the State’s 67 counties. 

 

Mr. Abounader completed the “Leadership Marco” program and is active in the community. Mr. Abounader has served on the City of Marco Island’s Parks and Recreation Committee, its Teen Task Force, and its Blue Ribbon Committee on Teens, as well as the Department of Justice’s Neighborhood Accountability Board for Marco Island, the YMCA’s Five Year Strategic Planning Committee, served as President of the Marco Island Noontime Rotary Club and on its Board of Directors, and has been a lector and Eucharistic minister at his parish. 

 

Mr. Abounader currently volunteers at the Marco YMCA and continues administering the Rotary Club’s “Students of the Month” program, and serves on Rotary’s Scholarship Committee.

 

During his professional career, Mr. Abounader has authored many articles in the field of education, psychology, theology, and scripture.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mrs. Albanese

Originally from Wall Street, Mrs. Albanese is a graduate of the Catholic University of America.  Certified in Middle and High School Mathematics, she teaches 8th grade Algebra, Geometry, and Math.

Mark Albanese is the Dean of Discipline at MICMS. Mark received his BS at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey where he majored in Marketing. After starting his studies, he joined the Sharp Electronics Corporation as a technical support person where he concluded his eleven-year career as the National Marketing Manager in their computer division. Mark is the father of a son, Chris, and happily married to Kathy Albanese, our 8th grade math teacher. Mark and his family have been residents of Collier County for thirteen years.

A dentist in his former life, Dr. Albanese, graduated Rutger's University with a Bachelors degree in Biology and Minor in Chemistry.  He received his Medical Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson Dental School and attended the University of Vermont Medical School.  In December 2002 he switched careers and has been teaching at MICMS in the science department ever since.

Ms. Bamberger, originally from Middletown, New Jersey, graduated Rutgers University in 2001 with a major in Natural Resource Management and a minor in Animal Science.  She moved to Florida in 2004 and began her career as a teacher.  She has since earned her masters degree in Science Education through NOVA University and continues to further her own education and accomplishments. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mrs. Cahill

Mrs. Cahill is originally from Toledo, Ohio.  She graduated from Lourdes College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Childhood Education with an emphasis on language arts and math.  In addition to a reading endorsement, she has pursued a Master’s Degree in Classroom Technology.  She has previously taught FCAT math here, making this her second year at MICMS.  Prior to working at MICMS she taught seven years of math, language arts, and reading in Ohio.  She lives on Marco Island with her husband Tim. 

 

 

 

 


Mrs. Callahan

Born and raised in New York, Mrs. Callahan graduated from Good Counsel College with a B.A. in English and a minor in education.  She has a Masters in Curriculum Development from Fordham University and a specialization in Reading.  Certified in reading, English Language Arts and English as a Second Language, she has nearly thirty years experience teaching at the middle and high school levels.  In addition to this, Mrs. Callahan was an adjunct lecturer at Mercy College providing educational opportunities to inmates in the prison system.  She has been recognized as Teacher of the Year and Teacher of Distinction and serves as Curriculum and Staff Development Coordinator.

Miss Drake attended the University of Texas in Austin and graduated from South West Texas State University. She has a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education EMH and LD with a minor in English. She also has a Reading endorsement for sixth grade and a certificate for ESOL. She has taught 31 years and her teaching experience has been in New Orleans, La., Charlotte, N.C., and Marco Island, Fl. Judy says “I must say without reservation, that out of all my years in teaching, the most enjoyable has been at the Charter School in Marco Island. This, of course, can be attributed to our wonderfully behaved and motivated students, the support from their parents, and the administration at MICMS who is always helpful and encouraging. It is a pleasure to teach in this type of educational environment.”

Mr. Craig Fisher

Born in Muncie, Indiana, Mr. Fisher earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Indiana University and a Master of Arts in Political Science from Ball State University. He has furthered his studies in Education at Florida Gulf Coast University. Mr. Fisher was a sales associate with Barnett Bank from 1993-1997 and he has been a social studies instructor at the Charter School since 1998.  Mr. Fisher coaches basketball and has also been an assistant coach in cross-country and track.

Originally from Massachusetts, Mrs. Garraty has lived on Marco Island for the past 22 years.  She received her education degree from the University of South Florida, in Tampa, in 1995 and has been teaching in Collier County for the past ten years.  This is her second year at the Marco Island Charter Middle School and she is looking forward to a challenging and exciting year teaching six grade Language Arts.

Mrs. Heidenreich grew up in Minnesota and earned her Speech Communications and Spanish degrees from St. Cloud State University.  After spending time in both the international business arena and construction, she earned her teacher's certification in NC where she began her teaching career. Even though she has enjoyed teaching math, science, and computer technology, she is currently teaching 7th and 8th grade Spanish as well as coordinating the yearbook and morning show.

I have lived on Marco Island for 12 years.  Prior to teaching Marco Island Charter Middle School students I taught at Naples Christian Academy.  I have been at MCS for the past 7 years.  During my teaching career I have taught many subject areas to include P.E., Spanish, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Language Arts.  This past year I earned my National Board Certification in English Language Arts/Early Adolescence.  In addition, I have completed my Master’s Degree Course work in Educational Leadership.  My simple philosophy is: Teaching is not just a job or even a career; it is a lifestyle.  It is my passion and each year I look forward to educating my students and learning from them.

Originally from Maine, Ms. Holdsworth received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Newcomb College at Tulane University. In her previous career, Ms. Holdsworth worked in marketing and trade show management. She became a permanent substitute at MICMS when she relocated to Florida from Texas. She is certified in teaching language arts and is in her third year teaching  Language Arts at MICMS.

Mr. Jarrett grew up in the small community of North Manchester, Indiana. He entered the Air Force at the age of twenty and spent the next fourteen years as a Survival Instructor training selected Military personnel how to: survive off the land, evade the enemy, resist during interrogation, and escape from capture (SERE). He has spent the last sixteen years teaching in grades 3-8. Mr. Jarrett has a BA in Education from the University of South Florida and a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Phoenix. He is certified to teach all subject areas in grades First-Ninth and certified to teach Social Studies up to the Twelfth Grade. Mr. Jarrett also has ESOL endorsement. Mr. Jarrett’s wife, Mary, is also a teacher and his daughter Kelsey attends Gulf Coast High School.

Mrs. Lampos moved to Marco Island from the Chicago suburbs where she taught middle-school language arts, literature, and social studies.  Before teaching, she obtained a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and worked in the commercial insurance industry for over 10 years.  Along with spending time with her family, she enjoys running, reading, kayaking, and playing tennis.

Mrs. Lang was born and raised in Edwardsville, Illinois, 30 miles east of St. Louis.  She earned a degree in Elementary Education at Southern Illinois University and became certified to teach kindergarten through grade 9. Mrs. Lang taught in the Edwardsville School District for seven years before moving to Florida in 1998. She resides on Marco Island with her husband and two sons.

Mrs. Lightell was born and raised in Royal Oak, Michigan. She graduated from Alma College with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and minors in math and psychology. Mr. Lindsay had been a long time resident of Pennsylvania where he taught high school English prior to moving to Florida this past summer with his wife and two children.  Mr. Lindsay’s educational background includes degrees from the University of Delaware and Villanova University.  In the past he has coached wrestling, soccer and baseball.  He decided to come to Marco Charter in order to get back to a small school environment where teachers and students knew one another.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Accounting from Nicholas College, a Masters in Education from Worcester State College and continued his education receiving a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Computer Science from Anna Maria College and Boston University.  In addition to his experience teaching both middle and high school students, he has also been an adjunct professor at Nichols College, has served as department head, been treasurer of the EAL and curriculum liaison.

She has a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts, an MBA from Anna Maria College and a CAGS in Computer Science from Anna Maria College and Boston University.  In addition to her experience teaching both middle and high school students, she has also been a professor in the graduate program at Anna Maria College, has served as curriculum coordinator, union treasurer and MCAS Curriculum &Testing liaison.  Recipient of two Tandy National Teacher Awards for excellence in teaching math, science, and technology, she is certified in all subject areas.

A small town farm girl from Iowa, Mrs. Miller attended college in Blair, Nebraska where she received as B.S. in Music Education.  For the past seven years she has been a faculty member at MICMS where she teaches instrumental music, has developed a Jazz Band Ensemble, and is the band director.  She spends her free time recording artists at her studio, playing tennis, and practicing the flute.

Roger Raymond is a graduate of Ball State University with a BS in Physical Education and Health with endorsements in driver education and coaching.  Mr. Raymond has been the athletic director at MICMS since the beginning and currently coaches boys and girls cross country and boys varsity basketball.  He also taught at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana for six years. In between education assignments, Mr. Raymond traveled the country for 14 years with the Morningstar Showband with his wife Karen.  They have two daughters, Jennifer and Jessica.  He and Karen are owners of Morningstar Music in Naples.

Mrs. Toth is one of the original teachers of MICMS. Certified in health and physical education for grades K-12 as well as a American Heart Association CPR instructor. Prior to teaching, Cheryl worked in sales for MetLife Insurance Company and coached varsity tennis and softball at Tamanend Middle School in Warrington, PA. Cheryl moved to Florida with her family in 1998 and started her career in education at the charter school.

Originally from Florida, Shane has taught Art and Science in Wisconsin, Alaska, and Florida for 18+ years, and was one of the original MICMS staff members when it opened in 1998. Mr. Totten enjoys incorporating "edu-tainment" into his lessons and is never seen in the same room as The Amazing PHEOC, Blind Boy Newton, or Captain Ecology! Mrs. Waldinger

Mrs. Waldinger was born in Norway, Michigan and was raised in the Midwest, Florida, the Bahamas, and Texas.  In 1975 she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a minor in math.  She has taught 4th grade and Middle School Math for the last 32 years in Texas, Wisconsin, and Florida.  In 2003 Mrs. Waldinger served on the Florida Teacher Advisory Board for Glencoe Publishing Company.  She edited the current Glencoe Middle School Mathematics textbooks.  She and her husband, Craig, have lived on Marco Island since 1990.
